Department of Science & Technology (DST) : was established in May 1971, with the objective of promoting new areas of Science & Technology and to play the role of a nodal department for organising, coordinating and promoting S&T activities in the country.

 

Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) : established in 1942, is an autonomous body and India's largest research and development (R&D) organisation, with 37 laboratories and 39 field stations or extension centres spread across the nation, with a collective staff of over 17,000.[1] Although CSIR is mainly funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, it operates as an autonomous body registered under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860.[2]

 

The Department of Chemicals & Petro-Chemicals : has been part of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers from 5.7.1991. The Department is entrusted with the responsibility of policy, planning, development and regulation of Chemicals and Petrochemicals  Industries. The business allocated to the Department is listed as below :

  1. Insecticides (excluding the administration of the Insecticides Act, 1968 (46 of 1968).
  2. Molasses
  3. Alcohol - industrial and potable from the molasses route.
  4. Dye-stuffs and dye-intermediates.
  5. All organic and inorganic chemicals, not specifically allotted to any other Ministry or Department.
  6. Planning, development and control of, and assistance to, all industries dealt with by the Department.
  7. Bhopal Gas Leak Disaster-Special Laws relating thereto.Bhopal Gas Leak Disaster-Special Laws relating thereto.
  8. Petro-chemicals.
  9. Industries relating to production of non-cellulosic synthetic fibres (Nylon Polyester, Acrylic etc.).
  10. Synthetic rubber.
  11. Plastics including fabrications of plastic and moulded goods. 

 

Department of Fertilizers Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers : which is headed by a Cabinet Minister who is assisted by one Minister of State. The main objective of Department of Fertilizers is to ensure adequate and timely availability of fertilizers at affordable prices for maximizing agricultural production in the country. The main activities of this Department in relation to the fertilizer industry are overall sectoral planning and development and regulation of the industry, as well as monitoring of production pricing and distribution of the output. The National Institute of Sciences of India : now the Indian National Science Academy, was inaugurated on 7 January 1935 at Calcutta and functioned with its HQ at Asiatic Society of Bengal till 1946 and their after shifted to Delhi in 1951.

 

The Indo-US Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) : established under an agreement between the Governments of India and the United States of America in March 2000, is an autonomous, not for profit society that promotes and catalyzes Indo-US bilateral collaborations in science, technology, engineering and biomedical research through substantive interaction among government, academia and industry. As a grant making organization, the principle objective of IUSSTF is to provide opportunities, to exchange ideas, information, skills and technologies, and to collaborate on scientific and technological endeavours of mutual interest that can translate the power of science for the benefit of mankind at large.

 

The National Science Foundation (NSF) : is an independent federal agency created by Congress in 1950 "to promote the progress of science; to advance the national health, prosperity, and welfare; to secure the national defenseā€¦" With an annual budget of $7.2 billion (FY 2014), we are the funding source for approximately 24 percent of all federally supported basic research conducted by America's colleges and universities. In many fields such as mathematics, computer science and the social sciences, NSF is the major source of federal backing.

 

National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL) : Pune, established in 1950, is a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). CSIR-NCL is a science and knowledge based research, development and consulting organization. It is internationally known for its excellence in scientific research in chemistry and chemical engineering as well as for its outstanding track record of industrial research involving partnerships with industry from concept to commercialization.
